Safety in Slinging & Signalling

The RTITB Safety in Slinging & Signalling (Rigger and Banksman) course has been specifically designed to allow appropriately qualified instructors to set up and conduct slinger and signaller (rigger and banksman) training.

This course has been written based on accepted industry standards (following guidance found in ISO23853 Cranes – Training of Slingers and Signallers). Please note that the information throughout this course relates to Basic training only. Specific Job and Familiarisation training will be required before a slinger/signaller can be deemed as fully competent.

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to attach a load to a crane, taking into account its dimensions, material, mass and centre of gravity, and communicate with the crane operator to safely lift and move the load from one position to another position and set it down. Candidates will be able to demonstrate an awareness of other site operations, pedestrians, hazards in the environment and weather conditions, taking appropriate action to minimise risk and increase efficiency. Additionally, candidates will be able to discuss the role of lifting plans in crane operations, and they will be able to discuss and perform pre-use inspection of slinging equipment required for operations.
